DBU Audit FAQ's
- 1. Does DBU audit logs and/or DBU Audit capture changes made to files using DBUSQL?
- DBUSQL does not interfere with the audit functionality of DBU. It is a shortcut for using the SQL search function in DBU. DBUSQL bypasses the need to open a file in DBU, then press F15 to Search, then F9 to Toggle from legacy search to SQL search. Executing the DBUSQL command does all that in one step, bringing the user immediately to the "Data Subset" screen. Any adds, changes, or deletes will be logged to the DBU/Audit journal or DBU change log if DBU is configured for that process.
- 2. What is the DBU Audit
Plug-in?
- DBU Audit Plug-in is software that allows DBU users to track and
monitor DBU changes or displays on any iSeries file. DBU Audit
offers an interface that allows the user to start or stop the
auditing function, display or extract audit data for viewing or
reporting, and maintain the integrity of the audit files.
- 3. Why is this better
than earlier DBU audit tracking?
- DBU Audit Plug-in goes beyond the base DBU audit tracking by
storing the data in journals rather than spooled files. This
simplifies the ability to track and report on changes to your
database files for regulatory compliance management or internal
control requirements.
- 4. Why is DBU Auditing important?
- Regulatory compliance and internal controls have really become
an issue for all companies. This was due to legislation passed
(Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPPA, etc) after the Enron fall-out as well as
other business scandals. Public companies, financial organizations
and any company filing annual returns with the SEC are required to
fully comply with financial reporting and independent audits.
- 5. How does DBU Audit help IT
departments?
- DBU Auditing is a great product for all companies. All IT
departments manage, modify and display information in databases.
Regulatory compliance and internal controls go to the heart of IT
with requirements to manage & track this activity.
Combined with DBU Authority controls, which offer extensive
tailoring on the access of all files and tailoring of the
functionality within DBU for each user, DBU Audit features create
the tracking and reporting mechanisms required for IT audits.
Finally, DBU audit files can easily be protected from misuse and
special security needs can be hand-tailored as needed by appropriate
users.
- 6. Why is this different that
IBM’s journaling function?
- DBU Audit journals only those modifications made via DBU. IBM
journals everything, which can cause information overload, making it
difficult to isolate specific records you may be researching.
- 6. What if I need a more comprehensive audit solution?
- Just let us know! we work with many business partners that we can refer you to. Combining our tool and utilizing theirs may just be the answer.
